My day:
Breakfast
5k on the beach where, thanks to Adam the trainer here, I was able to beat my time by 5 mins from last week. He gave me tips on how to run longer, better and pushed me harder than I would have pushed myself. I was first to finish also! 48.13 mins. There were two other ladies who did awesome as well. It felt like a great accomplishment for me!

Ok, what I learned about portion control (don't roll your eyes and skip this part. Read it at least once, maybe something will inspire you.)
Re-engineer your environment:
-Use smaller plates and bowls: people eat 20-30% less with a smaller plate. Try a 10" plate, smaller will leave you feeling cheated and invite you to get seconds.
-Use taller thinner glass - people tend to drink 30% less because a tall narrow glass looks like more than short wide glasses.
-Create "pause points". Things that make you stop and make a conscience decision to eat more. For example, single serving packages, don't eat 'family style', keep extras out of sight, never eat out of box or bag, use a plate, etc.
When eating something off your plan or high calorie, ask yourself "Is this worth it"? It may be worth it, but sometimes you might decide that it may not be worth it.
You don't need to be a member of the clean plate club. 'You can waste food, or waist it'
There were several other tips, but these stuck me as worth sharing.
Tamy... SO happy for you, I can feel your excitement, I'm so proud of you! Good luck!! Also, tell Jeff that he better be careful about the retard comments cause when I get back I may be able to kick his ass, then run like hell away!
Carey... already had made the decision to come out to some of your water classes! It will be a blast! btw, we do both shallow and deep water, cardio and strength. I'm ready for it all now!
Dad and mom... So sad I'm going to miss your visit :( It feels like forever since I've seen your guys and wine bottling would have been a blast.
Justin... I miss you too! I've been real strong and thought I was doing great, but this morning Gerry asked me if I was homesick and I held back sudden tears that came out of nowhere, then I did get tears when I told someone else about the sudden homesickness.
I'll share more pics of my friends each day! Gives me a reason to get their pictures.
Hipp Hipp HOOOORAAY! I said OMG out loud when I read you were first to finish the 5K. Outstanding KareBear! I am trying to show my Mom how to get on your blog and be a groupy too! :-) And, yes, I'll tell Jeff to simmer down, he's just feeling a little cocky because he is losing a ton of weight too! It's all good...everywhere! Hipp Hipp Hooooray!
ReplyDeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again....You are an inspiration! Those newbs are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteI concur with Tammie.... I almost peed my pants when I read you finished 5 whole minutes faster, and THEN you finished first?!?! HOLY SH*T!!!!! (Sorry to anyone who may be offended, but HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!)
ReplyDeleteI've read about the plate sizes before tricking your mind, and single serving sizes... they are great tips to use. I have even been known to get a to-go box when my meal has been served, and box 1/2 of it right away to take home. You end up being satisfied with 1/2 the portion, and you have seconds of something you love the next day!!! :)
You are amazing, Karen! It will be so much to do the 3 day together, and can't wait to kick your ass at water aerobics! ;)
Cooked that Salmon last night but didnt taste like yours does. The spinach for my salads has lasted a long time in the fridge, I think i got it your first day at Hilton Head and it still tastes good to me.
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing woman (I already knew that) and I'm so happy that you inspire others to do great things, that means you Tammie. I always knew that you were destined to do great things even if your not changing the world your changing YOUR world and thats tough enough for any of us. Love and miss you and keeeping your candle lit.
Ok, so who besides Karen knew that Justin was actually sweet? Love to read your posts Karen and read what everyone else has to say. You are learning so much, can't wait to see the new you and talk about the whole experience!
ReplyDeleteWow- finally had time to catch up and read each and every one of these, so here goes my book.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I know I've mentioned before, but I want you to know just how proud everyone is of you and how many people cannot wait to make lifestyle changes with you when you come home. The support here is trumendous, and I hope you feel that too.
Secondly, I get a little teary eyed when I read these.. Im just so impressed and excited to see you doing great things for yourself. You've really taken this opportunity to be the sponge and soak it in! Get it girl!!
Been hanging out with dad quite a bit (with the leak in my apt) and it's been really fun. I got to be his "personal shopper" and help him get fly for his lady, and we ripped up the tile downstairs and even THOUGHT about running the 5k.. IT WILL HAPPEN! Oh yes, and congrats on your new personal best time for the 5k!! I want to see that time at 45 minutes!! You can do it!
Things are going good here.. we're all more than ready to have you home. I picked papa and jojo up from the airport last night.. both tired and ready for bed. :)
Anyways, I love and miss you very, very much. I look forward to hearing about your day today.
XOXOXOXO
Today's blog was very helpful. Half my lunch went down the disposal. I was reading your blog while eating and was inspired to take note and realize the calories were not worth it. I am amazed at what you have accomplished in your time away. It is nice to know you will have continued support when you come home. Love & miss you, Mom
ReplyDeletePS This is my second comment, the first one disappeared!!!
You guys got to remember that when I come in first... out of three people... remember who the other runners are. It's not like I was running with athletes or anything! LOL
ReplyDeleteSarah, thanks for taking you dad shopping, I wouldn't want to hang out with a dork or anything! Hehehe
Mom, sorry you are having problems with the posts. I'm not sure what happens so I can't help, maybe someone on here can give her some insight. She writes a comment and loses it when she tries to post it.
Anyone else notice that at the bottom of the blog it says "Karen f at (time). Everytime I see it I think it says Karen Fat!
I don't think I could've run that far at all! Don't put yourself down at all, you're doing great!
